Most commercial ice melts contain chemicals that can irritate or burn a dog’s paws, and can cause gastrointestinal issues if ingested.

- Use a de-icer recommended for concrete
- Apply ice melt at the recommended rate
- Avoid using ice melt on concrete that’s less than a year old, or on concrete that’s chipped, cracked, or spalled
- Treat concrete with a concrete sealer
